The Koop family from Glenrowan West will deliver Nioka Solar, a renewable energy project with potential capacity up to 250 MW, enough electricity to power the equivalent of approx. 30,000 homes. Located just off the Hume Freeway, between Benalla and Wangaratta, 10km south-west of the town of Glenrowan in Victoria, the project will be coupled with a battery energy storage system (BESS) to provide further stability to the state’s electricity grid and contribute to Victoria’s clean energy transition.
Nioka Solar brings together farming excellence and project management and delivery experience. It will be constructed to enable the continued use of the land for grazing sheep under the solar panels.
The project will connect directly to the existing 220 kV grid in the Glenrowan area, avoiding the need to develop new transmission lines.
The construction and operation of Nioka Solar will create local jobs for the Hume region and support Victoria’s net-zero transition, without the loss of any agriculture-related jobs.
